Perseverance and Life

Today's blog is not about technology.  It is, instead, about how marvelous the human spirit is.

Yesterday morning I was catching up on Facebook.  An old friend had announced hours earlier that her sister had passed.  Her sister had been ill for quite some time.  However, over the past couple of years, through my friend's Facebook feed, updates would come across of them doing things together.  Through perseverance, her sister continued to enjoy life.

This morning I was thinking about my friend and her family, and I was reminded of my mother-in-law.  Many years ago she was diagnosed with a rare cancer and her prognosis was not good.  She persevered.  It went into remission.  A couple years later she and some friends took a trip to Israel to fulfill one of her life long dreams.  For years she has baffled doctors with new ailments which they believe are part of the rare cancer she has.  Two years ago, we were told to prepare ourselves as she didn't have much longer to live.  She overcame that, too.  She continues to enjoy life.

This morning, as I always do, I was enjoying my first cup of coffee, the quietness of the morning, and reading my daily scriptures.  This was on the page for today's date -

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life... - Deuteronomy 30:19

Funny how sometimes thoughts can become so perfectly framed by something unexpected.

Perseverance and Life.  Are they learned or ingrained in our very being?
